Whip Appeal — Silk & Velvet & Woven Gold

by

Hassle Fest is nigh. I’ll be brief. If you want to get to know Boston’s most lovable scumbags a little better, then huzzah, the perfect opportunity has made itself available!

Said opportunity is called SILK & VELVET & WOVEN GOLD. It is Whip Appeal‘s latest EP, number four if I’m reading this thing right, and I mean it’s right up there with anything else that you could possibly hear coming out of Boston at the moment. Ya see, Whip Appeal have snuck in from a weird angle and now these rap rock boys are pretty much full fledged post-punk men, and they just keep getting better.

If you’ve been smart, you’ve seen these guys play sometime recently, and so you probably know some of these songs, which is good. That means you can sing along immediately, rather than after a few listens like everyone else.
Simple sounds. good sounds (guitar and keys both glow), woven together to make a “2015 groove rock” that pretty much avoids the myriad pitfalls that such a description sets upon the band that it is describing. Fully presented with video accompaniment, replete with chopped and spilled interludes, this is a video EP and it’s eminently listenable from start to finish.

Catch Whip Appeal @ Hassle Fest 7 Night 1 (Thursday 11/5) @ Out of the Blue Too Gallery @ 11:10pm.
