GO TO: TONIGHT (5/18): LA PARCA LAUNCH PARTY w/ PORN THEATER USHERS, IMMIGRANTS, AND WHITE PAGES

The Washington Street Art Center is the place to be tonight: this occasion marks the launch of local fashion label La Parca‘s summer swag. Get thee to Union Square in Somerville to peep their new gear and this delightfully varied bill with 2 DJ’s to keep the party going. White Pages will be kicking it off with raucous freak-out jams delivered in short, sticky bursts. Come for the squealing punk chaos, stay for the between-song banter squirting straight from Joe’s back-brain. The rest of the night is devoted to a pair of the area’s finest underground hip-hop duos. Immigrants will be coming at you from a dark zone with Theory Engine’s twisted, maniacal verses and Mr. Id’s live on-the-fly MPC’ing, keeping your buzzed brain on it’s brain-toes. Stay for Porn Theater Ushers to see Nabo Rawk’s whip-smart rhymes held down by Mister Jason’s old-school grooves. I should probably draw your attention to that PBR logo on this flyer if you haven’t noticed already. Free beer, perhaps? I suggest you show up up close to the 8pm start time to get in on it, if that’s the case.

GO TO: TONIGHT (5/17) THE STRANGE BOYS, WILLIAM TYLER, & THE NEW HIGHWAY HYMNAL @ GREAT SCOTT

Austin’s Strange Boys are rolling into town tonight, bringing their rockin blend of proto-punk and r&b to Great Scott. Not afraid to let their honky-tonk roots show, the Boys’ booze-soaked garage tunes are the perfect soundtrack for a beautiful spring night in Boston. They’re joined by another southern boy with a more subdued sound: Nashville’s William Tyler, formerly of the band Lambchop. Pull up a stool and chill out to his pastoral acoustic soundscapes and Fahey-inspired finger-picking. Boston’s own The New Highway Hymnal will be kicking the night off with their fresh take on the fully twanged-out end of the neo-psych spectrum. Word is there’s still plenty of tickets available so don’t be afraid to come on down. 9pm doors. 18 plus. $10 cover.

GO TO: 5/17(tonite) BABY NAMES @ the Haven

The Haven, quite possibly Jamaica Plain’s coolest legitimate music venue, plays host to a record release for BABY NAME’s LIFE RULES tonight. Hyde Sq. will get to hear what Andy Brooks(aka BABY NAMES, not to mention several other monikers) has been up to as he unleashes this sprawling 20 song album upon the masses. There will be free CDRs of the album of course with horrible artwork, of course. The ex-Mittens singer/songwriter here gives us a cornucopia of pop, folk, rock, and even a little hip hop flavored tuneage. Check it, and check him out tonight wilding out amidst the Scotch ales and haggis.

GO TO: TONIGHT (4/16) PSYCHIC PARAMOUNT, CROPDUSTER, A TROOP OF ECHOES, THE SHAPE @GREAT SCOTT

Tonight in Allston Great Scott is hosting a delectable collection of psychedelic weirdo rock. The Psychic Paramount are an amazing NY-based psych rock band exuding absolutely massive levels of loudness and hazy, sputtering rhythms that make our heads spin and bodies freak out. Along for the ride are jazzy psych poppers A Troop of Echoes, heady homies Cropduster, and The Shape. Should be a good time.
